Get What You Need to Know About 2008 Legislative
Session with Annual “Legislative Roundup”
With the start of
the 2008 Legislative Session just hours away,
the Chamber is gearing up to provide you all you
need to know about the 30-day session with its
annual e-publication, the Legislative Roundup.
The Roundup will provide readers with
relevant and useful information about
legislation concerning the business community
and will be published several times weekly
throughout the session and sent to the Chamber
membership. For the last several months,
Chamber task forces and committees have been
digging deeply into the issues that affect
business. And on Friday at the Chamber’s
January Board meeting, these groups will report
to the Chamber, their recommendations for the
actions the Chamber should take in Santa Fe and
the issues to support, not support or try to
stop from becoming law. Once those initiatives
are approved, the Chamber will send its complete
legislative package to you, so be on the look
out for it Friday, January 18. If you know
someone who would like to be added to our list,
please email Julie Morales at
jmorales@abqchamber.com

generation of leadership. In an era of
increasing market turbulence, investor
impatience, and public cynicism it is of the
utmost importance that individuals possess
effective leadership and management skills. It
is also important that individuals recognize the
importance of personal well-being.

Mayor Chavez Encourages Youth to Run for Office
Mayor Martin Chavez spent some time with Youth
Leadership Program Participants during their
“City Day” on Tuesday, January 8th.
He greeted students in his office and talked to
them about the challenges and rewards of public
office. Students were able to participate in a
dialogue with him and asked pertinent questions
about future growth in Albuquerque, crime, and
his plans for the future. Mayor Chavez thanked
the students for their interest in becoming
civically engaged in the City of Albuquerque and
encouraged them to consider running for public
office in the future. “Power is never given, it
is taken…so take it,” he said. His words
resonated with students who said they felt
inspired after talking with the Mayor.

Images of Albuquerque Sales Will Conclude in 3 Weeks. Don’t Be Out of the
One of the Chamber’s Most In-Demand Publications
In July, the Chamber will roll out the 2008
edition of Images of Albuquerque
magazine. Yes, we know it’s only January, but
we’re almost through the sales cycle for this
publication and you don’t want to be left out.
This publication has a distribution of 10,000
copies annually and already the Chamber is down
to less than one-hundred copies of the 2007
edition. It literally flies off the shelves,
which is great news for our advertisers seeking
saturation in the market! There are few places
you can go and not see Images of Albuquerque.
