Do you have a passion
for early childhood literacy? Help this committee plan and
implement the Chamber’s Albuquerque Reads program, including
expansion, volunteer recruitment, logistics, fundraising
efforts, and much more! We have expanded to three schools and
ultimately our goal is to be in all 20 Title I schools in APS.

school one-on-one makes a difference. Work with us to keep this
critical program moving forward!

PLANNING COMMITTEE
If you want to be
involved in recognizing the efforts of the Albuquerque Reads
volunteer tutors, corporate sponsors, teachers, and children,
this committee is for you! Help to plan the annual recognition
luncheon that honors the success of the students, tutors, and
financial sponsors for their hard work and dedication.
ALBUQUERQUE READS TUTORS
Provide volunteer
opportunities to your employees and make a difference in the
life of a child. Studies have shown that if a child cannot read
at grade level by third grade, he or she will probably drop out
of high school. Albuquerque Reads is designed to reverse this
growing problem. Help a young child learn to read by
volunteering to tutor kindergarten students at one of three
Albuquerque public schools. Training will be provided. The
program has achieved dramatic results. Help a child today by
becoming a tutor!

Association to present its annual Community Leadership Award to

monthly. As a committee member, you will be asked to: Assist in
recruiting and screening keynote speakers; Securing a Conference
venue; Planning the Conference program; Securing sponsorships;

PUBLIC SAFETY
DIVISION
CRIME
PLANNING COUNCIL
Law enforcement’s role is to keep
residents safe, but the residents have to know that they are
safe. This is true for the business community. A community
that is safe to raise a family and to operate a business plays
a major role in the economic prosperity experienced in our
region. The Chamber realizes the importance of public safety
in the economic development of our region. This planning
council was formed to work closely with law enforcement
agencies to advocate for programs and initiatives which
enhance public safety which in turn will compliment economic
development. The council will continue to work on such local
projects as the Family Advocacy Center and the City’s
initiatives against gangs and gang violence. At a regional
level, the council will continue to work with M.A.D.D. and the
Governor’s Office on Drug Enforcement. We will also continue
to identify legislative solutions to problems that have a
negative impact on our families, our economy, and our quality
of life.

An effective and efficient
transportation system contributes to the economic success of the
region. The Greater Albuquerque region is continuing to grow and
along with that growth, comes many transportation challenges.
The Chamber continues to work closely with its regional partners
in addressing transportation issues. During the upcoming program
